About Kdenlive

Kdenlive is a free, and Open Source video editor which can be used to edit videos in Linux and Windows. While it may be hard to use in the beginning, people who have experience with other editors should be able to learn to use Kdenlive quickly.

Some things are a bit more complicated and inconvenient to do in Kdenlive, than it is in most mainstream video editors. However, overall it is a really good editor, especially in Linux where it can otherwise be difficult to do video editing.

Since the editor sometimes crashes randomly, it is recommended that you save often. Also, try not to do too advanced stuff, as it might trigger crashes and cause you to loose work (unless you have saved your project).

Adding fade effects is a bit inconvenient in Kdenlive. You can add standard "fade-to-blacks" by clicking the corners of clips. However, if you want to fade-to-alpha, you will strangely need to add an "affine" affect and use keyframes. This is mostly just inconvenient, as it slows down your editing process a little bit. But, when you get used to it, this is not going to affect you much.
